Project manager CV template

Project management CVs live or die on evidence of delivery: scope, budget, timeline, and what you did when all three were on fire. This template gives your certifications and methods a visible sidebar and keeps the main column for projects delivered, with numbers a hiring manager can interrogate.

Professional's sidebar is ideal for the certification-heavy PM profile: PMP, PRINCE2 and Agile credentials stay visible next to every project you describe. The calm, structured look also matches how PM hiring panels expect the discipline to present itself.

Lead with delivery, sized in numbers

The first question every reviewer asks a project manager CV is: how big, and did it land? Answer it in the bullets before they have to ask. Budget managed, team size, vendor count, duration, and the delivery result: "Delivered a £2.4M warehouse-management rollout across 6 sites, 3 weeks early and 5% under budget." That single sentence outperforms a paragraph of responsibilities.

Where delivery was messy (it usually is), the save is the story: scope renegotiated, a slipping vendor replaced, a critical path re-planned. Rescue bullets are among the most credible things a PM can write, because everyone who has run projects knows the clean ones are the exception.

Certifications: where they go and how much they matter

PMP, PRINCE2, Scrum (PSM/CSM), SAFe and ITIL are genuine search filters: recruiters query them directly, and some contracts require them. Put them in a dedicated, clearly labeled section, spelled out and abbreviated ("Project Management Professional (PMP)"), because both forms are searched.

But a certification list is a door-opener, not a case. The bullets still have to show the judgment the certificate implies: risk you surfaced early, stakeholders you kept aligned, decisions you forced at the right moment.

Methodology fluency without buzzword soup

Almost every ad wants some blend of agile and traditional delivery, so show range through the projects themselves: one bullet where you ran sprints with a product team, another where you ran a stage-gated infrastructure rollout. "Hybrid delivery" as a claim is weak; two projects demonstrating both modes is strong.

Name your tools once, near the bottom: MS Project, Jira, Smartsheet, Asana. Like every PM-adjacent role, tools are table stakes, and space spent on them is space taken from delivery evidence.

The stakeholder story

Senior PM roles are stakeholder roles. Show the altitude you operated at: steering committees chaired, executive sponsors reported to, vendors held to account, change resistance worked through. "Ran the monthly steering committee for a programme spanning IT, operations and two external vendors" tells the reader exactly what level to interview you at.

Steal this wording

Example project manager summary

PMP-certified project manager with 8 years of experience delivering technology and operations projects up to £2.4M. Delivered the 6-site warehouse-management rollout at Ashford Logistics 3 weeks early and 5% under budget, and rescued a stalled CRM migration by renegotiating scope with 12 stakeholder groups. Comfortable running agile squads and stage-gated programmes side by side.

Example achievement bullets

  • Delivered a £2.4M warehouse-management rollout across 6 sites, 3 weeks ahead of schedule and 5% under budget
  • Rescued a stalled CRM migration by re-baselining scope with 12 stakeholder groups; delivered the revised scope in 4 months with zero further slippage
  • Managed a 14-person cross-functional team and 3 external vendors, holding weekly risk reviews that caught two critical-path issues months early
  • Chaired the monthly steering committee for a programme spanning IT, operations and finance, keeping executive sponsors aligned through two priority changes
  • Introduced a lightweight RAID and change-control process adopted across the PMO, cutting untracked scope changes to zero over 18 months

Adapt the numbers and systems to your own work — never copy a claim that isn't true of you. The structure is the part worth stealing.

Questions, answered

Should I put PMP or PRINCE2 in my CV headline?
If the ads you target ask for it, yes: "Project Manager, PMP" as your title line puts the search term where recruiters and parsers look first. Also spell it out once in a certifications section, since some searches use the full name.
How do I show project size without breaching confidentiality?
Use ranges and relative scale: "seven-figure budget", "team of 14 across 3 vendors", "6 sites, 900 users". Scale markers make bullets credible; exact client-confidential figures are not required and nobody expects them.
What if most of my projects ran late or over budget?
Write the recovery, honestly: what you inherited, what you changed, and the delta you achieved. "Inherited a programme 4 months behind; re-planned the critical path and delivered the revised baseline with no further slippage" is a strong bullet. Every experienced reviewer knows clean deliveries are rare.
Project manager vs product manager: does the CV differ?
Substantially. A project CV is evidence of delivery against constraints (scope, budget, time). A product CV is evidence of outcomes (metrics moved, revenue created). If you do both, pick the framing that matches the ad, because panels for each role are trained to look for different proof.
Which sections matter most for an ATS?
A clearly labeled skills section with the methodology and certification keywords from the ad, standard section headings, and real text (this template exports as parseable PDF text, not images). Beyond that, ATS anxiety is mostly myth; recruiters searching keywords is the mechanism that matters.
